    How to Identify Fender Speakers

    • 1). Locate the serial number of your Fender speaker. The serial number may be found in several different locations, depending on the year and model of your speaker.

    • 2). Look at the control panel of your Fender speaker. If it is silver, black or brown, it may be the Silverface, Blackface or Brownface speaker, which are slang terms used to describe early Fender amplifiers. Most of the speakers were manufactured between 1963 and 1980 and have a serial number beginning with the prefix “A.”

    • 3). If the serial number does not begin with the prefix “A,” it may have been built prior to 1963. Between 1956 and the early- to mid-1960s, some vendor speakers had their own serialization scheme. During this time, Champ speakers were marked with a "C" prefix, the Harvard had an "H" prefix, the Princeton had a "P" prefix, the Vibrolux had an "F" prefix, and the Deluxe had a "D" prefix.

    • 4). Notice the type of material that is covering the amp. If it is Tolex (a textured vinyl material) or tweed, it was probably manufactured prior to 1970 and is most likely a tube amplifier. These usually have a serial number handwritten on the tube chart, which is located on the back of the amp.

    • 5). Scrutinize the back of your Fender speaker for a silver sticker marked “quality assurance.” These are usually present on Fender amps built after 1990 and will contain the serial number of the amplification speaker.

    • 6). Once you have located your serial number, consult a serial number chart to determine the exact make and model of your fender speaker.
