Ditch That Rut You Are In By Going Retro - Back To The Classic Films

Do you ever get the feeling that you're stuck in a box? Dragging through the same routine day after day, week after week, year after year? Eating the same foods, watching the same movies, listening to the same music, until you're ready to rip your hair out and bang your head against the walls just to get some variety in life? Am I getting overly dramatic? Yes, probably so.
But being stuck in the same old same old ad nauseum can do that to anyone.
There comes a time in everyone's life when they realize that they've fallen into a rut.
That they're doing the same things over and over again, not because they enjoy them but because that's "what they do".
You need no to-do list or daily, weekly, monthly or annual schedule because you already have ingrained in your mind, body and soul just what the passage of time will bring.
Here's the thing.
Most of the time, when you're looking for a way to break out of that rut, you look forward.
The latest music.
The latest toys and gadgets.
(5th generation iPhone, anyone?) New clothes.
New electronics.
New car.
Tomorrow's trends, today.
Right? Look back to vintage classic films for a fine rut-busting experience that will give you a whole new outlook on life.
When Was the Last Time You Spent an Afternoon Loving the Classics? Classic films may be your ticket out of the rut you find yourself in.
Take a look at the legendary "Casablanca" or the spare artistry of "12 Angry Men.
" Maybe it's just me, but I thought movies had more value before we could count on special effects to keep them interesting.
In 12 Angry Men, an excellent plot made up for the fact that the entire movie was shot in a single location.
Character development compensates for the fact that people are people and still look like people.
Savvy shooting had to keep the viewer interested in what was, relatively speaking, incredibly poor film quality compared to what we have today.
These days, films rely far too heavily on special effects and the bonuses offered by today's technology to keep the viewer interested, and that focus detracts from the things you really want when you sit down to watch a movie or a show on TV: A storyline that's going to keep you talking all night long.
If you're not a "film-ie" (hey, we have foodies, why not?), the concept of actually caring whether it's a new, cinematic whiz or an oldie-but-goodie that pulled itself up by its bootstraps might seem a bit foreign.
Who cares, as long as it's interesting, right? Well, with websites putting these vintage films at our fingertips, we can now view these vintage gems easily and often, something we couldn't do even a few years ago.
We now have the choice of glorying in today's magical technology or in yesterday's magical film artistry.
We can wallow in the joy of knowing that the oldies did it all with some really crude tools.
And, in the end, to remember what it really is we loved about film in the first place.
