    • Losing a cherished pet can be just as painful as losing a family member. Because of this, the process of deciding what to do with a pet's mortal remains can be a heartbreaking chore. Typically, there are two options: cremation or burial. When cremation is chosen, you must decide what to do with the ashes. There are several options for honoring your pet's ashes other than simply putting them into an urn.

    Scattering

    • After a pet is cremated, some owners may find the idea of keeping the ashes daunting. A simple scattering ceremony helps to honor a beloved pet by releasing his/her mortal remains at a location that holds special meaning, such as a garden or favorite play spot.

    Glass Art

    • Some companies that sell pet memorial merchandise offer the opportunity to immortalize a beloved pet's remains in blown glass objects. Generally, a small amount of the ashes are suspended in blown glass spheres, hearts or other shapes. The remains are cleverly concealed within swirls of color to create an aesthetically pleasing memorial object that can be displayed anywhere in the home.

    Memorial Gems

    • For those who find the idea of a traditional urn on the mantel depressing, a sparkling diamond may be a better choice. The ashes left behind after a pet is cremated contain carbon. Specialized companies can use this carbon to create an actual diamond. These gemstones can be created in a variety of colors and set into any jewelry the bereaved individual chooses. For some, wearing a piece of jewelry that is literally infused with the essence of a cherished pet helps with the healing process.
