Learning how to lead worship is usually a long and troublesome process, especially when you've got no person to help you. Where do you go in worship, how do you inspire others and where do you even start? These are all vital questions that should be answered and it is my hope that these few tips will assist you to learn how to lead worship the easy way.

Preparing: The Best Way to Learn How to Lead Worship!

Prepare your heart:

Seek the Lord in prayer before you select the songs, not just before the service. Don't overlook sin in your life, be sure your heart is true and ask the Lord to use you as His instrument to guide others closer to the throne. Lay aside any hidden agenda you might have and pledge to serve him alone in worship.

Choose Songs Folks Love:

The biggest mistake you can make when learning how to lead worship is to choose the songs you like. You are usually not there to push your individual songs and your individual musical tastes, you are there to lead the congregation in praise and worship. If you are just learning how to lead worship, ensure that than the people know and love the songs you choose, even if you don't like them! If they know and love the songs it's simpler for them to get pleasure from worship, rather than try to teach new songs.

Select Songs That Go Together Musically:

If you don't have an understanding of what songs can stream from one to the next seamlessly then ask a musician who understands this. Being dedicated to worship leading can also be a commitment to understanding how music works and how you can use music to imrpove worship.

Selecting songs in the same key is a good place to start. As a variation try three songs in a single key, and then 2 on the next key up, so you may modulate and preserve the flow between songs.

Select Worship Team Members Wisely

If you can select your team, ensure you choose these whose hearts are pure and who have some degree of talent in singing or playing. Some musicians are good however full of pride and wish to take over, however choosing beautiful people who can't sing or play is equally as counterproductive! If you work from rosters and cannot select the team, contact every member in private and encourage them as well as making sure of their support.

Watch your Timing:

Leading your worship for too long is impolite and disrespectful to the pastor, unless the Lord is doing one thing amazing (and you have the pastor's permission). Make sure you time the songs, and always aim at finishing earlier rather than later.

Learning How to Lead Worship Takes Time

No matter how faith-filled you are, learning how to lead worship takes time, so don't expect to get every part right the first time. My goal is to improve little by little, week after week, and to get some worship leader training to streamline and quicken the process.

Being a praise and worship leader is a big privilege and a stupendous journey, but making use of these principles should see you start the race well. Give yourself time to grow and improve your skills and remember that learning how to lead worship is the journey of a lifetime!
