Lucid Dreams Really exists and it's Potential Danger

Lucid dreams are dreaming while being aware that you are in dreams.  Usually you'll have power over your dreams, but it is not always the case.  Dreams are little shows of our life, created by our mind either consciously and unconsciously.  But we have to take into consideration that there are possibilities of potential risk of these lucid dreams.

Let us first acknowledge the existence of lucid dreams in our lives.
  • History talked of its existence; more than 5,000 years ago Egyptians believed in Ba, Ba was actually the lucid dreaming consciousness.  This is according to research made by Jeremy Naydler, author of Temple of the Cosmos: The Ancient Egyptian Experience of the Sacred.
  • 20% of people claimed to lucid dream frequently while 50% of people had done it at least once in their lives.  This is according to Snyder and Gackenback scientific survey conducted in 1988; they claimed one in five people lucid dream every month or more.
  • In 1975, the British psychologist Keith Hearne recorded the eye movements of Alan Worsley, a lucid dream volunteer, the two men had agreed upon a pattern set of eye movement signals before hand.  Keith Hearne interpreted Worsley's eye movements signalling he is dreaming.
  • J Allan Hobson, neuroscientist, conducted series of studies and researches, eventually theorized about what happens in the brain when a dreamer becomes lucid.  He claimed that being lucid is stimulated by the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (part of the brain which is responsible for self-awareness and working memory); this area is usually not active during REM sleep.
  • This is not a modern discovery, Tibetan practice meditation or yoga at least 1,000 years ago.  It is said that yoga is the original form of lucid dreams.

Potential Dangers of Lucid dreams

Dreams in itself needs more research and studies, we need more time and invest more procedural assessment on these issues.  Evidence that lucid dreaming is unhealthy, is yet to uncover.  But we must always consider safety measures, to avoid any uncanny events.
  • Isolation:  lucid dreams can have different manifestation on people, some can have them almost instantly, but other may find it difficult or even weird at some point.  So, these have great impact on your behavior in society; don't treat yourself to be freak, if you have different experiences about dreams.   Treat it as a gift, you are not alone, for all we know, it's just a matter of time before its deeper exploration and acceptance.
  • Escape from your walking life:  This should not be treated us your escape, curiosity can brought you to attempt on lucid dreams, but the reality of life should be maintained all the time.  You can never invest all of your time in attempts of lucid dreams, when you have the obligation to work.  So if you're spending too much time on these, than expected, please do reassessment and accomplished it with reality check.
  • Possibilities of dissociative disorder:  Lucid dreams may lessen the strength of your ability to identify between conscious and subconscious mind, the distinction between reality and fantasy.
