Those working in manufacturing navigational, measuring, electro-medical and control instruments earned an average of $47,230, and those dealing with the manufacturing of communications equipment earned an average of $49,710. In scientific research and development services electrical mechanical technicians earned an average of $63,310, while those employed by professional and commercial equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers earned an average of $46,870.

• New Mexico was the state with the highest concentration of electrical mechanical technicians as of 2009, where the bureau reported the average income was $56,350. The highest paying state was Alaska with a salary average of $86,730, distantly followed by Georgia at $60,140 and Washington at $59,000. Electrical mechanical technicians in Kansas and Idaho also earned higher than average wages at $58,180 and $57,600 respectively.

• With experience, electrical mechanical technicians gradually take on more difficult projects and are given a higher level of responsibility. Depending on the employer, they may also be promoted to a supervisory position.
