    • The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that electrical mechanical technicians earned an average salary of $49,880 as of May 2009. On the salary scale, techs in the 10th percentile earned less than $30,450, the median salary was $48,010 and those in the 90th percentile earned over $73,240 annually.

    Employer

    • Electrical mechanical technicians working in the industry of manufacturing semiconductors and other electronic components earned an average of $46,320 as of 2009, reports the bureau. Those working in manufacturing navigational, measuring, electro-medical and control instruments earned an average of $47,230, and those dealing with the manufacturing of communications equipment earned an average of $49,710. In scientific research and development services electrical mechanical technicians earned an average of $63,310, while those employed by professional and commercial equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers earned an average of $46,870.

    Location

    • New Mexico was the state with the highest concentration of electrical mechanical technicians as of 2009, where the bureau reported the average income was $56,350. The highest paying state was Alaska with a salary average of $86,730, distantly followed by Georgia at $60,140 and Washington at $59,000. Electrical mechanical technicians in Kansas and Idaho also earned higher than average wages at $58,180 and $57,600 respectively.

    Advancement

    • With experience, electrical mechanical technicians gradually take on more difficult projects and are given a higher level of responsibility. Depending on the employer, they may also be promoted to a supervisory position. Electrical mechanical techs can also earn higher wages in other industries, such as in support activities for mining, where the average salary was $66,260 as of 2009, or oil and gas extraction, where the bureau reported an average salary of $94,300.
