Can You Earn Money and Save the Planet at the Same Time?YES!
Indeed, though the average electronics equipment owner and user is completely unaware of the issue, it is incredibly important that we regulate and control the way in which our used, old, broken or not electronics equipment is disposed of...
with an eye to preventing the unnecessary contamination of the planet of course! And, by choosing to sell your laptop for cash rather than merely dropping it off in your curbside trash can or at the local dump, you can earn yourself a little cash while saving the planet at the same time.
Let's take a look at this interesting issue a little closer.
Recently, the highly acclaimed and awarded television news program "60 Minutes" ran a special on the issue of e-waste, the term that has recently been coined to refer to the discarded laptops, PCs, cell phones, MP3 players, peripherals, and all kinds of electronics equipment that is building up at a truly disheartening and alarming rate in dumps and landfills all across the country, and particularly in the third world (where the lack of environmental regulations makes it easy to locate such waste).
In their special report, the program's hosts brought up some fairly incredible statistics on the levels of e-waste that are produced in the United States alone: laptop computers and cell phones topped the list of e-waste items, with several million units being carelessly dumped into the trash every year domestically; various other kinds of electronics equipment followed closely behind.
And to think that all this takes place when there are real, valid opportunities to, for example, sell a laptop for cash and completely circumvent this horrible, damaging cycle! Of course, many people think that no one will accept their old laptop for cash, that the computer is simply so far gone, so incredibly damaged from mistreatment and/or viruses, that there is no sense in doing anything but chucking it out with the rest of the trash.
Though this idea has somewhat of a basis in logic, it is a completely erroneous conclusion to be reached: even if the computer itself as it is can't be brought back into working order, the various components inside (the ones that could end up polluting the ground water and soil of any number of communities, at home or abroad) are most likely able to be removed and used in other units.
In short, there is guaranteed to be something inside that old machine that will be useful, and with the work of a computer technician it's highly probable that with a little refurbishing and retooling the laptop will be brought back into functioning order without too much difficulty.
So, never just assume that your old laptop is completely worthless-you will most definitely be wrong in that assumption.
Rather, take the wonderful opportunity to trade your laptop for cash and be a responsible citizen!
