A lot of people don't even know there's one kind of emergency water filter, much less several choices, but when a disaster happens, or you find yourself in a situation without any clean water, it's good information to have.
Water is the most critical substance in all of our lives, and being prepared can mean the difference between life and death.
Since a large percentage of bottled H2O is only a questionable grade right from the tap, it's better to be able to filter your own should the need arise.
Having one of the following devices on hand in case of an emergency just might be your best bet: 1.
One of the simplest forms of water filtration is filtered drinking straws.
These little devices just pop into a glass of contaminated H20, and you're good to go.
The straws contain very fine filters that will remove small contaminants from as much as 132 gallons.
2.
Another very simple form of emergency filtering device is the filtered water bottle.
These bottles come in various sizes and contain fine-mesh filters.
Some are even equipped for two-stage filtering for even cleaner results.
Once again, you just pour water into the bottle and drink.
3.
Pitchers with filters are another step up in the chain.
These pitchers come with replaceable filters that will last through 50 gallons or up to two months.
Not only do they remove contaminants from the water, but they can also make the water both smell and taste better.
4.
Countertop filters actually attach to your faucet for a continuous flow of clean, fresh water.
These are equipped with twin filter cartridges that can last up to six months and will produce as much as 30 gallons of great-tasting water an hour.
5.
Gravity-fed water purification systems are free-standing, portable units you can take with you anywhere.
You don't need chemicals, water pressure, or electricity to operate one of them which is great in emergency situations.
Some of these units are self-sterilizing, remove pathogens and harmful chemicals, and reduce the levels of nitrates, nitrites, lead, mercury, and other unhealthy minerals.
None of these emergency water filtering devices are very expensive and are small enough to be stored away for times when you might need them.
Some of them can even be used all the time to improve your tap water.
It's preferable to store units like these rather than bottled water, because bottled water supplies get old and need to be replaced every few months.
