How to Register a Modified Vehicle in Pennsylvania

    • 1). Get the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Form MV-426B. This form is used specifically for modified vehicles. Download the form PenDOT or visit your local DMV to obtain it. Get the form anytime before submitting it; the form can be a useful guide and checklist to have as you satisfy registration requirements.

    • 2). Find the enhanced inspection facility closest to you. Download the "Enhanced Vehicle Safety Inspection Station" list to review the DMV-approved list of facility addresses. Pick an inspection station and schedule an appointment.

    • 3). Obtain or create a document detailing the modifications to the vehicle. If a mechanic did the work, use copies of the itemized service. Otherwise, type a list describing the modifications.

    • 4). Pick a car insurance agency and add a policy to the vehicle.

    • 5). Complete Form MV-426B and submit it to the DMV along with the car title, proof of insurance, and the exact payment to the Pennsylvania DMV as outlined on Form MV-426B. Pick a time to visit the DMV to submit all of your documents at once.
