    • 1). Open the cookie preferences manager. With Internet Explorer 7 open, click "Alt" and "T" to bring up the Tools menu. Click "Internet Options". Select the tab labeled "Privacy". In the Settings section on the following screen, click the button labeled "Advanced" to manage cookie preferences.

    • 2). Override Internet Explorer's default cookie handling. In the "Advanced Privacy Settings" box, place a check in the box labeled "Override automatic cookie handling".

    • 3). Select your first-party cookie preferences. First-party cookies track information related to a single domain you choose to visit. They can only be read by the website that issues them. For example, if you visit yahoo.com, all cookies set directly by Yahoo! are first-party cookies. Internet Explorer 7 always accepts this type of cookie by default. Choose to block these cookies, or be prompted to accept them before each use, by checking the corresponding button in the "Advanced Privacy Settings" screen.

    • 4). Select your third-party cookie preferences. Third-party cookies track information related to one or more domains you do not choose to visit. They can only be read by the website that issues them, but you may not be aware of their issuance. For example, if you visit yahoo.com, you may view several ads, each delivered by a provider other than Yahoo! These providers may issue their own third-party tracking cookies without your knowledge. Internet Explorer 7 accepts this type of cookie by default as well. Choose to block these cookies, or be prompted to accept them before each use, by checking the corresponding button in the "Advanced Privacy Settings" screen.

    • 5). Select your session cookie preference. Session cookies are short-term cookies used to maintain information over a series of web pages on one website, such as a shopping cart. They are deleted when your browser closes, and for this reason are generally considered a lower security risk than first- or third-party cookies. You may choose to always accept this type of cookie by checking the corresponding box in the "Advanced Privacy Settings" screen.

    • 6). Save your changes. Click "OK" twice to exit the "Internet Options" dialog boxes and save your new cookie preferences.
