How to List Freelance and Professional Experience on a Resume
- 1). List professional experience, freelance or not, in reverse-chronological order, with the newest job at the top. Include only jobs that qualify your for the position you're applying for. Don't list the restaurant server experience from high school, for example, if you're applying for an administrative position.
- 2). Write your job title, place of employment and employment dates for each work experience, freelance or not. Include one or two sentences under each title detailing your responsibilities.
- 3). List freelance experience only if the work is regular and applies to the position you are applying for. The employer may think that irregular work signals that you couldn't find a job, so you became a freelancer. An employer may also wonder if you'll still pick up freelance work, detracting from the company's work. Think carefully before including freelance experience.
