Write an Article - Share Your Knowledge
One of the quickest ways to solidify yourself as an expert stylist and market your skills is to have an article published, bearing your name, offering hair tips to would be clients.
Before you pass out from your longstanding fear of high school English and the dreaded essay, this should not be a painful task.
Instead of writing about a book that you hated reading or some other obscure topic, you get to write an article about something you enjoy - hair.
Still waiting for a light bulb to go off in your mind? Keep reading, and then be prepared to set down your familiar tools of the trade, open a Word doc and start writing...
Pick a Topic Alright, we know you are going to write about hair, but what about hair.
Let's narrow it down.
Are you the best colorist, stylist or extensionist around? What makes you better than the rest? No, that isn't rhetorical.
Think about it, what sets you apart.
Is it your background, your special process, did you attend the best school, what about you makes you great? That's what you will write about.
For example, what if you wrote an article titled "5 Tips to Finding the Right Stylist.
" As you explain the five things that make a stylist great, and your reader checks each off in their mind as important, you will suddenly become the obvious stylist to visit because you have all of those qualities that make a stylist so fabulous.
Neat huh? Another idea, what questions have you been asked over and over by clients? You know, questions that seem painfully obvious to you but whose answers always amaze the questioner.
For example, The Secret to Maintaining Hair Between Visits, The Best Products for Certain Hair Types or How to Make You Hair Work for You? If you immediately thought of answers to those questions, then you are on the right track.
Those topics and more are exactly what you should write about and people will be interested in reading.
After you have picked your topic and the article has basically written itself.
Don't under estimate the power of polished grammar.
This is where you call in a favor and as a friend to look over your work, you know just to be safe.
Now that I have convinced you that writing an article isn't so bad, I bet you are wondering how to get your article published.
Get Published Have you ever noticed local magazine and newspapers in your area that you would love to market yourself to? This is the best place to start.
Local publications are always looking for fresh interesting articles full of content that their readers would be interested in reading.
And since most of readers have hair...
an article about hair care would be appealing to most publications.
Grab your favorite local publication, and write the editor an email about the article you wrote with their publication in mind and how you would be honored to share your tips with their readers.
Don't forget to request that your byline be included with your article including your name, business name and contact information.
Once your article is published, do it again.
