Texas is a place where various musical styles blend. These different genres are featured throughout the state at eclectic festivals, where the music is appreciated by knowledgeable audiences. Most major cities in Texas have some type of music festival each year, but there are a few that stand out. No matter what your music preference, chances are you can find a music festival in Texas you will like. - The Austin City Limits Music Festival is an annual event in Austin that features some big name bands from various musical genres. Some headliners from 2009 included Pearl Jam, the Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ben Harper and John Legend. The 2010 festival was scheduled for Oct. 8-10 in Zilker Park.
- The Greater Southwest Music Festival has been around for nearly 40 years and is now an annual music festival in Amarillo that features group competition bands, orchestras, jazz bands, choirs and show choirs, and solo and ensemble competitions for strings, brass/woodwind, percussion and vocal. The 39th annual festival was scheduled for May 6-8, 2010, in downtown Amarillo at the Civic Center and the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
- The South By Southwest Music Festival is held in Austin each year and includes a combination of musical acts, interactive presentations and film features. Showcasing nearly 2,000 musical acts from around the world with more than 80 stages, this is one of the largest music festivals in the United States. The Chicago Sun-Times stated, "For 23 years, the South by Southwest Music & Media Conference has been the premier music fest in America, as well as the most accurate barometer for the state of the music industry." In 2010, the music festival was scheduled for March 17-21 at the SXSW Trade Show in the Austin Convention Center and at various outdoor stages and nightclubs in downtown Austin.
- The Kerrville Folk Festival is a family-oriented series of events held every year at the Quiet Valley Ranch, which is nine miles south of Kerrville, Texas. The Kerrville Folk Festival has been around since 1972 and is an 18-day festival featuring traditional folk, bluegrass, acoustic rock, blues, country, jazz and Americana musical styles. In addition to great music, there are some special activities for children, songwriting schools, music business seminars, hill country bike rides, canoe trips on the Guadalupe River, Sunday folk song services and a competition for emerging songwriters.
