Your bedroom is important; it is the place you go for rest, relaxation and privacy. It is the most intimate room in your home, and the success of a bedroom space--whether you are looking for better sleep, or sharing intimacy with a partner, can be dramatically affected by your choice of window treatment.

Window Treatments

Window treatments determine the degree of privacy you experience in your bedroom and the availability of light or darkness. They will ultimately impact how comfortable you are in your bedroom and the quality of the time you spend there. What's more, you will probably notice your bedroom window treatment more than any other window treatment in your home. Consequently, if you have a limited budget and need to make choices about how to invest in your living space, your bedroom windows should be high on your list of priorities.

Degrees of Privacy

There are many types of window treatments on the market today, but window binds are the most versatile and cost effective. They give you the ability to easily control the atmosphere in any room. You can adjust blinds to allow in very specific amounts of light or darkness and easily create degrees of privacy. With a simple turn of the wrist, you can alter the mood and ambiance of your environment. And blinds do all this with grace, charm and beauty, transforming your bedroom at any time of day from a bright sunny public space into a soothing, peaceful hideaway.

More About Blinds

Window blinds come with either vertical or horizontal slats, with horizontal slats the most popular and offering the most variety. The slats come in various widths-- inch for micro blinds, 1 inch for mini blinds, and 2 to 2-1/2 inch for regular blinds. They're available in a wide range of designs, patterns, styles, textures, and sizes, and generally have a matching valance at the top. They're convenient, adaptable, and easy to install and use. They can also be custom designed if you have arched or otherwise unusual windows to treat.

Insulated Blinds

Blinds can also be designed to absorb sound and heat. While all window blinds provide some amount of insulation, blinds can be manufactured with an enhanced capacity for insulation. Insulated window blinds also prevent heat loss during cold seasons.

Types of Blinds

Based on the material used to make them, there are 3 types of blinds in today's marketplace:

  • Aluminum

  • Aluminum blinds are popular because they're durable and easy to care for. They're available in a wide array of colors and finishes, everything from a metallic high gloss to a low gloss matte. Consequently, they can be matched with just about any wall color you might have.

  • Fabric/PVC Vinyl

  • Blinds can be manufactured using a large number of fabrics, all kinds, from sheer to opaque. Sheer fabrics are good for covering large spaces--an entire wall of windows or French doors, for example. You can make a unique and completely personal fashion statement with a clever and imaginative mix and match of fabric.

  • Wood & Faux Wood

  • Wood blinds are both elegant and functional. They're generally made from oak, cherry, or ash, but you can also choose faux wood as a more affordable alternative. Wood blinds do not fade, warp or crack. They're ideal for areas with extreme temperature variations or direct sunlight, and can be stained to match any interior.

  • Remember

  • If you choose the material and style of your bedroom binds carefully, they'll provide the same elegance as draperies, while offering the practical conveniences and versatility unique to blinds.
