How to Finish the Last Part of the Rubik's Cube
- 1). Turn over the Rubik's cube so the unsolved level is on top. The symbol for this level is U for upper level. The other sides are: D for down; L for left; R for right; F for front and B for back. In an algorithm, writing the name of a side means to turn it clockwise, as you are looking at it face on. Written with a 1, it is to be turned counterclockwise, and written with a 2 means turn it two times -- in either direction. For example, the algorithm F F1 F2 means turn the front face clockwise, then counter clockwise, then two times in either direction.
- 2). Get a cross showing on the upper level before doing anything else. This does not necessarily mean the edges are in the right place; it just looks that way when you look at U face on. If it is already a cross, skip this step. The only other possibilities are a straight line of the right color across the center of the cube, in which case complete F R U R1 U1 F1. If the proper colors make a right angle, position the cube so the correct colors are on the L and B directions, and do F U R U1 R1 F1. The only other possibility is that only the center square is the right color. In that case, perform both algorithms.
- 3). Finish the bottom by getting the corners in the right place. Put the corners you want to switch on the right, and do L U1 R1 U L1 U1 R U2. You may have to do this more than once. Now everything is in the right place. To orientate the corners correctly, do R U R1 U R U2 R1 U2. You may have to do this more than once. To orientate the edges correctly, do R2 U F B1 R2 F1 B U R2. You may have to do this more than once. The cube should now be solved.
