How to Decorate Your Indoor Foyer
- 1). Choose a paint color that is inviting. If your home is decorated primarily with a Mediterranean style, you might want to pull a color from your living room that makes the foyer feel like a part of the scheme. Choose a color from a sofa, painting or pillow that will make the two areas feel united. You can also add texture to walls for an added effect. Stucco walls in a foyer introduce your guests to an Italian-style home, while a metallic faux-finish invites modernity.
- 2). Hang a lighting fixture that is decorative and functional. Chandeliers add drama to foyers and they make your house welcoming. From elegant crystal chandeliers to wrought-iron ones, the choices are many.
- 3). Place a mirror in the area. Mirrors make small spaces seem spacious. Because they reflect light, they make any area seem brighter and more welcoming. The mirror is also practical for one last look before heading out the door.
- 4). Select a rug that adds character to the area. Rugs are necessary for collecting dirt, but they don't have to be plain. Consider the shape of your foyer and find a rug that fits. A small, round rug might go better in a small foyer, but a runner works well in longer foyers.
- 5). Add a small table to the foyer to give the space a sense of stability. Place a small catch-all on the table to collect keys, mail and other items.
- 6). Decorate your windows. If you have windows in your foyer, hang window treatments to make an impact. Choose a color that contrasts with your wall color to add interest. Go with bold, rich colors if your walls are light and go with lighter shades if your walls are dark.
- 7). Place a chair in your foyer and, if room allows, make a seating area. Benches are an option because they come in a variety of sizes and you can store shoes underneath them.
