How to Repair an LCD Screen in a Canon A85 Camera
- 1). Turn your Canon PowerShot A85 on, discharge the flash then quickly turn the camera off and remove the battery. Cameras with built-in flashes have an electrical storage capacitor inside the camera. These capacitors store energy so the flash will function properly. If touched when the camera is disassembled they can produce an electrical shock. By discharging the flash then removing the battery you minimize the amount of power that will be stored in the capacitor.
- 2). Remove the small screws from the camera's casing. There are screws on the bottom and sides of the camera. Carefully pry open the camera, the camera will open in two parts, with the front of the camera containing all of the electronics including the LCD screen.
- 3). Remove the four small screws from that hold the LCD screen in place, carefully lift the LCD screen up off of the circuit board and locate where the ribbon cable is connected to the circuit board.
- 4). Disconnect the ribbon cable from the circuit board by carefully but firmly pulling the cable plug from its connector. Set the old LCD screen to one side.
- 5). Insert the new LCD screen ribbon cable plug into the connector.
- 6). Lay the new LCD screen onto the circuit board, insert and tighten the four small screws to hold the screen in place.
- 7). Re-assemble the camera. Replace the small screws into the camera's casing. Insert the camera battery. Turn the camera on and view your new LCD screen.
