    • 1). Draw one circle, with a diameter of 1 inch, in the center of the first page of the Post-It pad. This is your "parent" cell. Draw one blue letter "X" and one red letter "X" in the middle of the circle. These are your chromosomes that have copied themselves and are ready to split.

    • 2). Repeat this basic drawing on the 9 following pages of the pad, but on each successive page draw the circle increasingly more like an oval. Keep the red "X" and the blue "X" in the center of the shape on each page. This part of the flip book illustrates the beginning of the cell division process.

    • 3). Begin to change the shape from oval to one resembling the border of a figure 8 over the next seven to eight pages. To accomplish this, draw a number "8" with a pencil and erase the horizontal line in the middle. On these pages, in order to illustrate the chromosomes splitting, draw two separate red lines and two blue lines inside the shape. One of each should head into one circular section of the new shape, and the remaining lines should head in the opposite direction.

    • 4). Complete the process by closing off the new shape on the last 2 to 3 pages, essentially drawing a figure 8 containing two equally-sized circles. Each circle should contain 1 red line and 1 blue line to show the chromosomes in the new cells. These pages show the completion of the cell division process.
