Global Warming As a Nationalistic-Globalism Theme - A Case In Branding
It is my contention that the Earth goes through cycles and we are in a warming trend - although I don't even believe that's been proven yet - and that warming periods are better than ice ages for life on earth, including humans.
Nevertheless, even though I am not on board with the global warming alarmism, I am marveling at their brilliant branding strategy.
It is as if they created a whole new religion.
They came up with something to get everyone on board marching in the same direction towards a common cause.
In some regards that might be good for humanity, rather than fighting each other, as humans can work on something bigger than themselves, it's just too bad that this problem they picked is actually most likely nonexistent.
You see, it is amazing how easy it is to build up a sense of nationalism by picking an enemy, of course, isn't that how you build up any team? Religions often find something they are against, perhaps something abstract, but something that everyone can agree upon.
This holds the flock together.
You see, they generally pick evil, and evil is an abstract concept, but most all humans don't like the idea of evil, and therefore they are against it.
If they and everyone else in the group are against it, they now have a common bond.
A sense of nationalistic pride is very similar, everyone is on the team, and against the other teams, or in this case other countries.
Unfortunately that isn't very good for preventing wars.
Those in the first world nations generally like the idea of free markets and capitalism, although they bicker over the concept of socialism, all the while uniting against communism.
As communism ends unless there is a resurgence those first world nations are going to have to pick a different enemy to conquer, whether it be evil, or global warming for instance.
If every nation stakes their own nationalism on this environmental movement, and therefore joins in with the globalism thing of being anti-global warming, then we all have something to work on, preventing pollution, which is probably a good thing anyway and this builds the brand, keeping everyone on the same team.
It's just that I worry about the fire and brimstone and the overdone alarmism in the global media to get there.
We should all get along, and work on common problems, but why waste it on something like global warming when we have real problems solve? Why isn't everyone against old age and death for instance? Everyone who has ever been born so far has died.
Why don't we work on that?
