    • 1). Have two players put the elastic rope around the outside of their ankles, and then stand about 8 feet away from each other. Have one player open his legs so the rope forms a triangular area. If both players open their legs, the rope forms a rectangular area. Decide on which shape you want to play in. Make sure the rope is taut and does not sag on the ground. Keep the rope at ankle height and not too high, unless you want an added challenge from having to jump high.

    • 2). Have the player who is going to jump in this round stand in the center of the rope "court." Decide as a group on the pattern of jumps required of the player in the center. Jumping into the "court" is called "In;" jumping out of the court with feet on either side of the rope is called "Out;" jumping to one side of the rope with both feet is called "side." For example, to make the player jump outside the rope, then inside, then on one side and then the other side, say "Out, In, Side, Side."

    • 3). Repeat the chant until the player messes up and switch turns. Otherwise, stop and make the chant harder with a longer sequence of jumps. To make the play even harder, do not make a preset sequence of jumps, but instead have one player holding the rope chant a random sequence that the player in the center must follow.
