    • 1). Look up the statutes and rules on how to execute the search warrant. Following the laws and rules ensures a constitutional search.

    • 2). Identify the things to be searched. The search warrant descriptions on persons and things limit the search to those particular persons and things. Make a list of each person to search to find a thing and each thing to search.

    • 3). At the address given in the warrant, knock and announce the name, office, authority and purpose for the search. Ask for admittance to the place to do the search. Upon agreement, enter the place. If admittance is refused, enter the place, using forcible entry if necessary.

    • 4). Search the premises location described in the warrant for the person or thing named. Find and examine the things specified in the warrant. Search each person and place the officer expects to find an identified thing.

    • 5). Before taking property, verify the things are those things described in the warrant.
