How to Pump Water From a Deep Well

    • 1). Ensure that the well is clean, and that there is no sand or grit in the water supply.

    • 2). Attach the ejector or jet of the pump to the bottom of the suction pipe inside the well. If the ejector jet doesn't have a check valve, use a foot valve. Also, a tail pipe can be used underneath the ejector, with the foot valve mounted on the bottom of the tail pipe.

    • 3). Install the foot valve on the bottom of the ejector (or to the bottom of the tail pipe if you are using one). Connect the ejector to the quarter-inch pipe, and lower the assembly into the well. Keep adding pipe until the ejector is lowered to the desired depth. As you lower the assembly, fill the suction pipe with water.

    • 4). Fit the casing adapter onto a piece of quarter-inch suction pipe by loosening the flange bolts on the adapter. When the casing adapter is installed, tighten the bolts. Fill the well adapter with water--the well adapter has two holes for two different sized pipes. Fill the adapter so that both the one-inch and 1 ¼ inch holes are full of water.

    • 5). Mount the pump onto the well adapter,so that the one-inch and 1 ¼ inch holes line up with the same holes on the adapter.

    • 6). Pour water into the discharge of the pump housing (or the automatic regulator if your model of pump has one).

    • 7). Turn off the power to the pump, and check the motor to make sure the appropriate voltage is being used.

    • 8). Switch the regulator to maximum pressure, and start the pump. Water should begin discharging from the pump. The pressure will decrease as the flow increases. Keep opening up the regulator until you hear a change in the tone of the pump. Read the pressure on the gauge; this is your optimum operating pressure. Secure the pressure level by installing a jam nut on the regulator.

    • 9). Connect the discharge of the pump to the water tank using a length of galvanized or PVC pipe.
