How to Record My Voice With a Song in the Background
- 1). Plug an external microphone into your computer's microphone input. This port is usually located next to the headphone input. On older computers, the sound port is in the rear of the computer.
- 2). Turn on your microphone if there is a switch on the device. Many microphones are powered by the computer and do not require an additional power switch.
- 3). Open the sound recorder on your computer. A basic sound recorder comes standard with most computers and can be found under Entertainment on the Accessories menu on your computer. Click the "Start" button, then "Programs" to find the Accessories menu.
- 4). Click "Entertainment," then "Sound Recorder." Click "New" on the file menu. Open the song you want to play in the background on your computer. Alternatively, you can play the background song from a CD or mp3 player near the computer as you sing.
- 5). Click "Record" when you are ready to begin your song. Start the song on your computer, CD player or mp3 player. When the song finishes, click "Stop" on your sound recorder. Play the recording back to hear the results.
- 6). Record multiple times to give yourself multiple options when choosing a final version.
