How to Cook Pear Preserves With Less Sugar
- 1). Prepare hot water bath in canning set, following manufacturer's directions. Place jars and lids in the hot water bath until Step 6 and 7.
- 2). Add pears and juice to saucepan. Mix well using wooden spoon.
- 3). Add pectin to the mixture, a small amount at a time. Stir.
- 4). Bring mixture to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.
- 5). Remove pan from heat. Skim off foam with the wooden spoon and discard.
- 6). Ladle hot preserves into jars, leaving about 1/2 inch at the top.
- 7). Wipe lids with paper towels, center the lid and apply the band.
- 8). Place in canning set's hot water bath for approximately 10 minutes, or as directed on manufacturer's directions.
- 9). Remove jars using tongs and allow to cool.
