China issued a typhoon alert for Southern provinces along with the Hainan Island.

There are currently five crew members still unaccounted for.
The typhoon, which was initially a Category Five storm that caused mass destruction in the Philippines, is now classified as a severe tropical storm.
The main hazard will be the rainfall; a 48-hour accumulation of 100mm to 200mm is expected, with up to 400mm over high ground.

The Tropical Storm Haiyan has already swept through the Con Co islands in Vietnam, 18 miles off the coast of the Quang Tri province, resulting in the 250 residents on the island being evacuated to shelters underground.
There was a distinct lack of food in these shelters for several days.
The threat of the Tropical Storm Haiyan has resulted in several international and domestic flights being cancelled; schools in the North have been closed, in the coastal regions boats have been ordered back to port.
Vietnamese authorities have evacuated around 883,000 citizens from 11 central provinces to safer zones.
Many people are annoyed that the warnings have come too late.
