When looking for hosting providers, there are tons out there but many are not good. When trying to find a web hosting provider, a lot of people settle for a bad company to host their sites. If you want to avoid the common mistakes that most people make when choosing a host provider, then this article will show you 8 that are the most common.

When choosing a web host, you should not chose based on a single recommendation. Many people have different experiences with web hosts, and just because one person may have a favorable view of a particular host, that does not mean that others find them favorable. It is a good rule of thumb to try out a few services before making your final decision on just one.

There are many cheap hosting services out there and just because they are inexpensive, does not mean the service is good. This is true for many things, including web hosts. If you have a choice between a reliable but somewhat costly web host and cheaper but unreliable host, choose the more reliable. In the long run it is going to save you hours of frustration if you choose a reliable service.

Some hosting services give you the flexibility to register new domain names with them. Although this may sound like a time saver, it really is not a good idea. Web hosting providers put a lot of rules on what a domain name can be or what part of the name can be hosted by the service. It is always recommended to by pass this option and keep your domain names separate from your hosting services.

Hostgator and Hostmonster are the only hosting services I would recommend paying for up front. Others you have never heard of or newer companies are those you should either do a trial run with or only pay for a month at a time. Once you get to know the company better, then go a head and pay for six months up to a year.

Now when you sign up for a hosting plan, the service will try to sell you add-ons. Avoid add services until you know whether you need them or not. You can always buy these services later. If they offer you a discount to use them, still avoid paying for things you don't need up front. You will just end up spending money that you could otherwise use on other more important business expenses.

Watch out for the hosting service start ups, They are the companies that don't have a lot of time in the business and also have a really small support team. They can do more harm to your business than anything. Give them a year to see if they stay in business, then if you like go back to check them out. Try a trial plan first before signing up for more.

Terms of agreement are very important when signing up for a hosting service. You may sign up for a low price, only to find out three months later the service has tripled in price and you are locked into a long term agreement. Watch for the bait and switch. Many companies do it. Hostgator and Hostmonster are two that I know never do this to their customers. They are two fantastic services to do business with.

Now you are going to find that many people just don't have the time to research a company or take their word on the service they provide. It only takes a few minutes to Google the hosting service to see if they have any complaints. Often times you will find something about a company if it is not providing good service.

Lots of people make lots of mistakes when choosing a host provider. It can results in lots of frustration and lots income. Avoid the mistakes outlined in this article and you will do just fine.
