Nowadays, landscapers, builders and garden designers discovered the many functions of railway sleepers. They choose these kind of material for their stonework in the garden for it gives them many options in using the sleepers. Before, only reclaimed sleepers are being used but because of the demand, manufacturers produced new versions of sleepers that have the same quality, strong and will last long.

This paved the way to the two main types of railway sleepers that landscapers use in their project. These are the recycled sleepers and the new sleepers, the new sleepers are also divided into Treated Softwood Sleepers and Hardwood Oak Sleepers. The kind of sleepers they will use will depend on the project's budget, and the landscaper's personal choice.

New Sleepers €" The Hardwood Oak Sleepers will give any garden an impression of quality because of its untreated nature. This is the most durable among the wooden sleepers. It can last up for several years in its original form or even if you cut them up into your desired sections and placed in the dug up portion of the land. This is normally more expensive than the softwood sleepers but because they are stronger and more durable, they will outlast the price that you paid for them in terms of service.

Recycled sleepers €" Most of the recycled sleepers are made from hardwood materials treated with creosoted. This will give you the maximum strength for any landscaping need that you will require but because they are treated with creosoted, they contain certain degree of carcinogens. Though the presence of carcinogens is very low, there is also very low risk of skin irritation. Other times, they will leave markings on the clothing. To avoid the problem of skin contact, landscapers cover the tall structure with fencing products so that the hardwood sleepers will be covered. Generally this will be the most cost effective among the sleepers since they are durable and last long.

Aside from the strength of the sleepers it posses, they are also fixed in such a way that they will be strongly attached to each other. Landscaping screws which are made of strong steel have a length of up to 250 mm long. The sleepers are fixed with a powerful drill and then they will screw into the sleeper and then fix it to the next sleeper. They are strongly attached that you will need a very powerful force before you can even pull them out.
