How to Use Outlining on Word 2000
- 1). Open the document you want to format.
- 2). Click "View" and "Outline" from the menu or click the Outline View button (at the bottom of your page) to switch to Outline view.
- 3). Highlight the main headings on your page. Select "Level 1" from the "Outline Level" drop-down in the Outlining toolbar to make them Level 1 headings.
- 4). Highlight sub-headings on your page and make them "Level 2" headings. Repeat this process for third-level headings, making them "Level 3" headings.
- 5). Click any headings or text you want to demote or promote. To demote a heading, click the "Demote" button in the Outlining toolbar. To promote text, click the "Promote" button.
- 6). Highlight and drag any headings or text you want to move. Click the "Move Up" or "Move Down" button in the Outlining toolbar to rearrange your content or highlight it and drag it to another location.
- 7). Click the plus (+) sign beside any headings or subheadings to hide or reveal the content attached to the heading or click the "Expand" or "Collapse" buttons in the Outlining toolbar.
