Attack of the Panda - Google Programmers strike again

You may or may not be aware, but Google has dramatically changed how it ranks web pages in it's search results. The changes are a result of a update Google has dubbed Panda. The primary goal of Panda was to give Google users the most relevant possible results. The issue with the update is that many sites that had high rankings in the search results are now finding themselves further down the results, even on the 2nd and 3rd page.

The reason for this is that the Panda update places a higher emphasis on €quality content€. Google is now using factors such as the amount of time a visitor spends on the site and the number of pages viewed within the site. The Panda update also values sites that have a social media presence as well as sites that maintain frequently updated content, such as this blog. While the jury is still out on the value of this update it has created some fundamental problems for website operators.

Most website operators are small businesses that do not have the resources to hire staff dedicated to constantly updating their content
Small website operators that have an established website have designs built around static content and some would require a total revamp of their website
Those established websites with static content that are Search Engine Optimized (SEO) and have the most relevant content will not be able to compete with a less relevant competitor that has a blog with less relevant content.

It will be cost prohibitive for small website operators to adapt to the Panda update and it will require operators to rethink their website design with content that had been successful for them up until the Panda update.

They are a few steps that website operators can take to help them recover their rankings in the search results prior to the Panda update:

Find your pages with the highest page rank or inbound links and redevelop those pages to include dynamic content.
