How to Edit Sound in Audacity
- 1). Download Audacity (see link in Resources to free download). Follow your computer's instructions as it coaches you through the download.
- 2). Open your file. In the top menu, go to "File", then click on "Import". Select "Audio". Then you will be free to browse your computer and select the audio you wish to import. Once you have done this, the file will load into Audacity and will appear in the box as a sound wave.
- 3). Highlight a section you want to delete or move. To move that section of audio to another place, simply highlight it, and click "Edit", then "Copy" at the top bar, select a new location, and click "Edit", then "Paste". To delete a section you don't want, click "Edit", then "Cut."
- 4). Get rid of extra background noise. To do this, highlight a section of audio that only has the background noise that you want to eliminate. Click on "Effect" at the top, then select "Noise Removal". Follow the instructions on the noise removal menu to eliminate the noise.
- 5). Manipulate the audio. If you want to do anything fancy to the audio, explore the other options under the "Effect" menu. You can make the sound fade in and out in sections, among other things. If this is for a serious project or interview; the less you manipulate the sound, the better.
