- Choose colors inspired by nature for the backdrop of your rustic decor. Hues to consider include ecru, sage green, terracotta and slate blue. Though a loft is open and airy and often lacks interior walls to achieve this open feel, using these warm, earth-tone colors helps to give a room a cozier feeling. Use one color throughout, or select a combination of colors and paint one shade on each of the walls of the space.
- If your loft features beams on the ceiling, they will work well with the rustic style; however, if you don't have beams, create the look by hanging distressed 2-by-4s from the ceiling. Arrange pillar candles on top of a wooden tray and set it out on top of a coffee table. Drape chenille throw blankets in natural colors across the backs of chairs and couches. Display pictures of mountain landscapes on the walls, tabletops or countertops. Use old wooden store signs and aged glass bottles as decorative accents, as well.
