How to Operate a Scag Mower
- 1). Check the tires for proper inflation and ascertain that the oil and fuel levels are adequate.
- 2). Mount the mower and sit fully in the seat. A dead man switch beneath the seat causes the mower's engine to shut down if there is no weight or too little weight in the seat.
- 3). Check that the brake is engaged. The mower will not start if the brake is released.
- 4). Check the blade switch and make sure the blades are not engaged. The mower will not start if the blades are engaged.
- 5). Push the steering levers outward, before turning the key. Otherwise the mower will not start.
- 6). Pull out the choke lever and move the throttle control to half speed.
- 7). Turn the ignition key to the start position. Release the key as soon as the engine starts.
- 8). Depress the choke button and increase speed to full.
- 9). Release the brake and pull the steering levers inward, out of the neutral position.
- 10
Ease the steering levers forward with equal pressure on each. Pushing the levers forward increases speed. - 11
To steer the mower left pull the left lever back slightly. The further back the lever is pulled, the sharper the turn. To steer the mower right, pull the right lever back slightly. - 12
To drive in reverse, pull the levers to the neutral position, and then back even more. The further back the levers are pulled, the faster the mower travels. - 13
Disengage the blades by pulling up on the blade switch. - 14
To stop the mower, pull the steering levers back toward the original, neutral position, turn the key to the off position and engage the brakes.
