Car Navigation System Tutorial
- When the vehicle is started, the navigation will turn on, but before a main screen with options appears, a safety message will be displayed on the screen. Once the driver or passenger selects the option to continue to the main screen, a variety of options will appear. On the main screen, options such as find a destination, place of interest, current location, maps and options will be available to choose from.
- When choosing a destination is selected, the navigation will ask where you will like to go. Normally, a street address or cross road names will be required to get you to the desired location; however, sometimes the destination can be chosen through picking a point on the map. After the information of the destination is put into the navigation via keypad or touchscreen, the navigation will ask which routing method is desired. Options might include "direct route," which will use all roads, "easy route," which will use shortest amount of turns or "freeways," which will use highways along with side roads.
- On the main menu, the option of place of interest can be selected for finding places such as restaurants, banks, parks and other popular places. When selecting restaurants, for example, the navigation might offer three choices to find a restaurant. Selecting "nearest" will allow the navigation to list all of the closest restaurants in the vicinity. When selecting by name, you will have to type the name of the place into the system. Selecting by city will list all of the restaurants by city. Points of interest is an ideal way to find new places that might have never been known about before.
- On the main menu, there are most likely options of current location and maps. Selecting current location will provide the vehicle's current longitude and latitude as well as the road it is situated on. Selecting maps will show the driver where the vehicle is and allow the driver to zoom in and out to find surrounding neighborhoods.
- The final selection on the navigation's menu is the options. In the options section, the driver can change settings for the navigation. Here the driver can increase or decrease the navigation's volume, change the brightness of the screen and set up the clock. Different navigation systems come with different options, but these are the normal settings that can be changed.
