How to Install a Stereo in a 2008 Chevy
- 1). Lift the hood of the Chevy Cobalt and disconnect the grounding cable from the negative battery lead post, using the 10-millimeter wrench.
- 2). Pry the dash trim panel that spans the dashboard on the passenger's side, away from the dashboard with a trim panel removal tool.
- 3). Pry the trim panel that conceals the stereo mounting dock, away from the dashboard.
- 4). Remove the six 7 mm bolts (3 on each side) around the stereo unit with the 7 mm socket and drive.
- 5). Pull the stereo unit from the Chevy's stereo mounting dock and disconnect the wiring from the rear panel of the stereo.
- 6). Connect the stereo wiring to the wiring harness adapter.
- 7). Insert the GM aftermarket stereo kit faceplate adapter into the Cobalt's vacant stereo mounting dock. Replace the screws that previously held in the factory stereo around the perimeter of the dock.
- 8). Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the appropriate outlets on the rear panel of the new stereo. Place the GM antenna cable adapter over the Cobalt's antenna cable lead. Plug the adapted antenna cable into the FM antenna outlet on the rear panel of the replacement stereo.
- 9). Slide the new stereo into the faceplate adapter in the dash of the Chevy.

Replace the trim panel that surrounds the stereo and climate controls. Press the outer edges of the panel to secure it to the retaining clips on the dashboard. - 11
Replace the trim panel on the passenger's side of the vehicle. Put the thin panel in place and press along the length of the the strip to fasten it to the dashboard. Move to the Chevy's battery. - 12
Place the negative battery cable onto the negative battery lead post. Tighten the cable to the post with the wrench.
