How to Program a FOB for 1996 Tahoe
- 1). Turn off the Tahoe's engine. Inspect the underside of the driver's side dashboard to find the OBD-II port -- this is the port you use to connect a code scanner to the Tahoe.
- 2). Count to the fourth terminal from the left. Insert one side of the jumper wire into the fourth terminal. Insert the other side of the wire into the eighth terminal (the last terminal on the top row).
- 3). Verify that the Tahoe's doors have locked, then unlocked. You should hear them operate. If you don't, try pushing the wires in a bit further, or verify that they are attached to the correct terminals.
- 4). Press and hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons on the key fob. After 15 seconds, the Tahoe's door locks should operate again.
- 5). Repeat Step 4 to program another remote within one minute of programming the first.
- 6). Remove the jumper wire connections from the OBD-II terminals when you are finished.
