    • 1). Plant Stargazer lily bulbs in autumn around mid-September. Avoid planting the bulbs any later than mid-October.

    • 2). Combine 2 parts sandy potting soil, 1 part shredded sphagnum moss and 1 part coarse horticultural grit. Pour the soil mixture into a 1-gallon nursery container. Make one planter for each Stargazer lily bulb.

    • 3). Dig an 8-inch-deep hole in the center of the soil. Place the Stargazer lily bulb into the hole with the rounded end pointing downward. Push soil in on top of the bulb to completely bury it.

    • 4). Set the nursery containers along the northern wall of the greenhouse to provide the bulbs with cool conditions during the winter months. Open the ventilation to keep temperatures in the greenhouse below 35 degrees F.

    • 5). Water the bulbs every few days using a watering can. Keep the soil barely moist at a depth of 4 inches. Let the top inch of soil dry out completely before adding more water.

    • 6). Move the nursery containers to the southern wall of the greenhouse in early spring around mid-March. Close the ventilation for the greenhouse to slowly increase the temperature.

    • 7). Increase the water to 1 inch twice a week once air temperatures warm to above 55 degrees F. Let the top 1/2 inch of soil dry out between waterings.

    • 8). Hang 30-percent shade cloth above the Stargazer lilies once daytime temperatures warm to above 78 degrees F in the greenhouse. Hang the cloth above and beside the nursery containers to block out all southerly exposure.

    • 9). Feed the Stargazer lilies with 6-6-6 ratio fertilizer starting around mid-May once the shoots appear and start to swell. Apply the fertilizer according to the recommendations of the manufacturer.

Harvest the lilies for cut flowers as they appear.
