    Standing Tall Tulips

    • Tulips are beautiful spring flowers that are closely linked with the Netherlands, but flourish in lots of backyard gardens. Tulips, however, are not the most sturdy flower and can often fall over the sides of your vase. To counteract this, place a tall drinking glass in the center of a larger vase and fill the glass with water. Place the tulips in the glass, fitting in as many as possible. The tulips will bend slightly, but the effect will be beautiful.

    Choose an Unusual Vase

    • Traditional vases do not always have to hold your flowers. You can often find non-traditional vessels that will create visual interest and hold your flowers in a different way. A ceramic mixing bowl can serve as a holder for a potted plant like daffodils or daisies. Simply fill the bowl with dirt, place the plant in the center, add more dirt, and then cover with moss. Water like you would any other houseplant. You can also use pitchers to hold tall flowers, or glass containers from burned-down candles for small floral bouquets.

    Sticks and Flowers

    • Flowers like lilacs and peonies do not always have the strength to stand up on their own, but you might still want to display them. Mother Nature can help you create a green solution, using sticks and twigs. Find enough sticks to fill the vase you are using. Cut the sticks so they are a 1/2 inch shorter than the vase. Insert the sticks in the vase, covering the bottom and making sure the sticks are tightly packed. Add water to the vase and then slide the flowers' stems between the sticks. They will now stand up straight.

    One Large Flower

    • When you find yourself with an abundance of large blooming flowers like peonies or roses, create a dramatic floral arrangement with a small bowl. Take your flowers and trim them short, so there is very little stem. Fill your bowl, or small sphere-shaped vase, with water and place the blooms in the bowl, packing them tightly so it appears there is just one large bloom. This arrangement works particularly well if the flowers are all the same color.
