How to Make a Homemade Garden Fountain
- 1). Dig a hole in the ground where you wish to place your fountain that is slightly larger than the water basin you will use. Choose a spot that is fairly close to an electrical outlet for the pump. Place the basin in the hole.
- 2). Put the pump in the center of the basin. Locate the ball valve on the pump. Unscrew the compression fittings on the ends of the ball valve and connect a tube of copper piping to the valve and reattach compression fittings to hold in place.
- 3). Cover the basin with a mesh screen that will keep debris out of the water. Cut a square trap door into the mesh screen with scissors for maintenance of the pump. Above the screen, create a support system for the fountain by laying pieces of composite decking on top of the mesh that extends beyond the screen. The composite decking should all face the same direction to make the fountain look nicer.
- 4). Drill holes in stones, pottery, or another object you choose to turn into your fountain using a hammer drill fitted with a masonry bit and fit it over the copper pipe. The stones should fit tightly around the hole to hide the pipe and support the fountain structure so it stays in place.
- 5). Fill the basin with water until it is covers five inches above the pump. Turn on pump and adjust the pressure with a ball valve.
