Tomb Craft

• Children can create a model tomb to celebrate that "Jesus is risen" with sheets of thick paper, a stapler, large paper plates, small paper plates, black and yellow construction paper, paper fasteners, felt tip markers and glue. The child should cut about a third off a large plate, then color the plate brown and staple it onto a sheet of thick paper, lining up the bottom of the paper with the line cut off the plate. This represents the tomb. Using the black construction paper, cut out the shape of an opening for the tomb. Glue this piece onto the plate. Take the white construction paper and cut out a square. Write "Jesus is Risen!" on the plate and glue it to the tomb. Attach the small plate to the front of the tomb with a paper fastener. This represents the stone that was rolled away and can be moved back and forth because of the paper fastener.
  
  

Pop-Up Cards

• Pop-up cards are often created on Easter and are quite easy to do. For this craft, gather blank cards that are 5 ½-inch by 4-inch, colored card stock paper, flower and butterfly stickers, transparent tape, glue sticks and the cross and Jesus pattern. Photocopy the cross and Jesus pattern onto the colored stock paper. Instruct the children to cut the pieces out for this pattern. Take the piece that is labeled "small folding piece" and fold it in half. Place this piece in the centerfold of the card and attach the cross to it. When the card is opened, the cross pops out. The children can decorate the card with the stickers.
  
  

"Jesus is Risen" Cup

• Preschool and kindergarten age children enjoy this Easter craft. To make this cup, gather plastic cups, soil, seeds, paint, paintbrushes, small tongue depressors, ribbon, newspaper and glue. Place newspaper on the tables to protect them. Give each child a cup and instruct them to decorate it by using the paint. While these are drying, ask them to paint two small tongue depressors red. Once they are dry, glue them together to form a shape of a cross. Tie this cross to the cup using a ribbon. Fill the cups with soil about three quarters full and have the children place a seed in the soil. The seed will grow as a symbol of new life.
  
  

"Jesus is Risen" Egg

• Collect plastic Easter eggs, small favor baskets, Easter grass, ribbon and markers and stickers for decorating. Give each child a small favor basket to decorate. Place Easter grass in it and then place an egg on top of the grass and tie a ribbon to the top of the basket. The empty egg represents the empty grave.
