How to Make an Outside Patio Bug Net

    • 1). Measure the patio area to be covered with the bug net with the tape measure. Add 14 feet to each measurement to determine the tulle yardage needed. Seam the tulle together on a sewing machine to achieve one large piece of tulle which matches the total width and length of the patio along with the added 14 foot fabric length and width needed to create the full length side overhangs.

    • 2). Hammer a penny nail through a bamboo pole, perpendicular to the pole length, 1 inch from one end of the pole. Repeat with all poles.

    • 3). Dig post holes at each corner of the patio with the shovel. Bury the pole ends without the nails and firm the ground by stamping it down. Tie the twine lengths over the top of the poles to the penny nails so an equal amount hangs off from each side. Push two tent stakes into the ground near each pole and tie the ends of the twine to the stakes to secure the poles.

    • 4). Drape the tulle over the tent poles, centering the tulle netting. Cut the ribbon into four equal lengths. Gather the tulle over the tops of the poles, stretching the tulle on top of the poles taut, but not overly tightly so it won't bow too much in the center. Tie the lengths of ribbon around the tops of the poles to secure the tulle netting to the poles.

    • 5). Cut an opening from the ground to the top of the completed bug net with the scissors to create an entrance on one side.
