How to Fix a Keyless Entry
- 1). Purchase a new keyless entry remote battery from any auto parts store. Simply visit an auto parts store, ask an employee if they have batteries to fit your car's year, make and model.
- 2). Use a sharp tool to separate the remote's two pieces. Do this gently to avoid damaging the remote, which could cause additional problems. Replace the old battery, close your remote fob and test it.
- 3). Turn your car on and off eight times in 10 seconds to reprogram your keyless entry. Technical problems sometimes convert the programming and your car no longer recognizes the remote. Turning the car on and off will reprogram the key and hopefully make it work for you.
- 4). Go for a drive to charge your remote. The remote charges when the key in in the ignition and the car is in motion. If replacing the battery doesn't work, call your dealership's service department. The problem might be with the car. You may also just need new keys.
