Privacy Guidelines for Developing Software Products & Services
- Some companies have specific privacy statements that they require third-party software developers to include. Other companies simply require that software that is designed to work with their products contains a privacy statement that informs users that their information will not be sold to other companies or displayed publicly.
- Disclosure notices must inform users of the type of information that a software will collect and how it will be used. Depending on the type of software, an opt-out clause may be required to allow users the ability to withhold certain types of personal information if they choose to do so.
- Software developers must have a method of safeguarding user's personal information, and must inform users of this method in the privacy policy. This can be done via a valid SSL certificate, or other security and encryption methods.
