How to Kill Carpetgrass
- 1). Improve the area's drainage by raising low-lying areas with sand or topsoil additions. Punch holes into the soil with a soil aerator, providing better percolation of water into and through the soil. Cut back on lawn irrigation.
- 2). Temporarily raise the soil pH to 7.5 or above with lime. Make sure your current lawn grass can tolerate these high pH levels. St. Augustine tolerates a soil pH of up to 8.5, while carpet grass dies at 7.5 or above.
- 3). Spot-spray carpet grass with salt water in salt-tolerant turf grass such as Bermuda and St. Augustine. Carpet grass has very low salt tolerance.
- 4). Mix Arm & Hammer soap mixed to a paste and apply it to the carpet grass infested area. This kills only the carpet grass.
