There is no dearth of thirst quenchers in the Australian market. In fact one can easily say that there is abundance and the consumer is spoilt for choice. From an array of flavored and unflavored waters, to sodas, blended coffee, juices, beer and even teas, there are plenty of beverage choices available irrespective of the time and season. So how exactly do you make your beverage brand stand out?

The answer is by adopting unconventional advertising strategies that not only target the right people but at the right time and at the right place. The newer and more appropriate the strategy, the more likely it is to reach and affect the potential consumer and his buying decision. Consider the following not so typical marketing strategies to make a greater impact:

1. Outdoor Televisions: So most brands advertise on television. The consumer watches the advertisement, makes a mental note of the brand but probably forgets about it by the time he goes to a store or restaurant to purchase a drink. But picture this - How about if there is an Outdoor TV Enclosure in the supermarket or pub or even at a sporting venue itself? The potential consumer is already there at the purchase venue and is in the process of making his drink decision. If the advertisement playing at the venue is your beverage brand, there is a good chance he will watch it, think about it and want to try it. It's like influencing his buying decision at the right time. These outdoor TV's are inexpensive, convenient and do not take up much time or space. The TV cabinets are compact, sturdy and mostly wall mounted strategically so that anybody seated in a restaurant, pub or stadium can watch the advertisement being played, possibly on repeat.

2. Events: Any sporting events including marathons will be a great fit for any beverage marketing, particularly if it non-alcoholic and meant to rehydrate the body. Sky is the limit when it comes to events in Australia. Footy, Cricket, Running, Sailing, almost everything makes Aussies thirsty. You need not become official sponsors; all you need to do is set up access. Everybody participating or watching is going to get thirsty so your best deal is to set up a kiosk, a stall or simply mount your beverage bottles and cans on a funky looking cart or bike and sell. Sell at a discount if need be, to attract customers initially. Most other events like carnivals and fairs are a great place to market your product as well. Banners that you put up will have more visibility, funky set ups will attract crowds through curiosity and more often than not, account to sales.

3. Sampling/Tastings: This may not be unconventional, but is a guaranteed sales booster. Your beverage brand may have been around for a while but there is a good chance that it has been lost somewhere in the plethora of other available beverage choices. A free sampling or tasting is like inviting attention. Especially when conducted in supermarkets, restaurants, schools etc. it reminds customers of the taste of your beverage or in the case of first time tasters, lets them experience the taste and gives them a reason to purchase it.

Steer away from conventional methods like television and print advertisements and opt for unusual marketing strategies like these to build a better and more effective brand image.
