Arts and Crafts

Basic arts and crafts activities can include coloring pages such as those found on the Big Idea website (see Resources section). The popular VeggieTales series offers all types of crafts and online games for children age 3 to 8. Other simple crafts include making foam crosses from pre-made materials such as those found at chain craft stores and using the Bible verse in John 3:16. Even young children can help design a simple bookmark that says "God is Love," while older children could use more creativity, embellish their bookmarks and use longer Scripture verses.

Games

Educators can apply spiritual truths to many children's games to demonstrate God's love. For "Duck, Duck, Goose," explain to children that God always chooses them, even if someone else might not. Read Ephesians 1 and elaborate that God chose them before they were born. For "Hide and Go Seek," read Psalm 139. Tell children that they can't hide from God's presence; He will always be with them.

Drama

Skits, puppets and plays about God's love also provide interactive ways for children to learn how God cares for them. Parents and educators can use simple ,adapted from Bible stories such as Jesus feeding the 5,000 or God's deliverance of the children of Israel out of Egypt. Other stories online or in books can usually be adapted for a variety of ages.

Songs

Many children know favorite traditional Christian children's songs such as "Jesus Loves Me" or "Jesus Loves the Little Children." Incorporating sign language with the songs adds a further dimension to engage young minds and bodies. A wide variety of more contemporary songs also reminds children of God's love. Children can also dance or sign to newer favorites such as "How He Loves" by the David Crowder Band.
