    • 1). Slide the power switch on the top of the Creative Zen to the off position and insert the tip of your screwdriver in under the rectangular panel at the top of the Zen and gently pry up to pop it off and expose two screws underneath. Repeat with the plastic panel on the bottom of the Zen.

    • 2). Remove the two screws from the top of the Zen as well as the two screws on the bottom of the Zen.

    • 3). Insert the tip of your plastic case opener tool in the gap between the front and back halves of the Zen. Work your way along the sides until the two halves separate.

    • 4). Unplug the thin battery wire that runs from the battery in the back half of the Zen to a port on the green circuit board in the front half. Set the back half aside and you should see the blue hard drive on top of the circuit board in the front half of the unit.

    • 5). Lift the hard drive up from its bottom and you will see the orange hard drive ribbon connected at the motherboard. If it is loose unplug it and plug it back into the port, making sure it is secure. If this doesn't fix your Zen proceed to the next step.

    • 6). Unplug the hard drive ribbon cable and set the hard drive aside.

    • 7). Remove the six screws from the corners and sides of the circuit board. Lift the board up carefully to expose the thick screen ribbon cable underneath.

    • 8). Verify that the screen ribbon cable is plugged securely into the port. If it isn't unplug it and plug it back in, making sure it is secure. This should fix any problems with the main components of your Zen. Reverse the steps for reassembly.
