How to Harvest a Venus Fly Trap

    • 1). Observe your Venus flytrap's flower stalks carefully once the blooms fade and turn black. They'll now begin producing seed pods. When those split open, small shiny black seeds will be visible.

    • 2). Hold a small cup under the seed pod and snip it from the plant with sharp, clean scissors. Shake the seeds from the pods into the cup.

    • 3). Spread the seeds out on a paper towel to air dry in a warm room 2 or 3 days. This will help to prevent fungal growth during storage.

    • 4). Pour the flytrap seeds into a paper envelope and fold it closed. Label it clearly with the storage date and collection details. Put the envelope in a plastic food storage bag and squeeze all the air out of it before sealing it tightly.

    • 5). Refrigerate the Venus flytrap seeds in the crisper drawer until planting time next season.
