The tech giant, Apple has always shed fascinating and lavishing products and services out of its umbrella. Recently, Apple just fueled up the tech terrain with its latest launch of new service iCloud. This new service is a replacement of Apple's MobileMe service. MobileMe facilitates users to synchronize their contacts, calendar, and mail with a virtual hard disk, that too anywhere and anytime.

Despite many MobileMe's valuable attributes, Apple has scrapped this service. Now, a question arises here, why Apple dumped MobileMe for iCloud?

Let's dig into detail to find out possible motives:

MobileMee's weak debut:

The service was originally launched on January 5, 2000, as iTools (a free version)  to offer Internet-based services for Mac users. From the beginning, MobileMee was plagued with infuriating technical problems ranging from bugs that wiped away iPhone customer contact lists to a mail server crash that locked Apple users out of their e-mail accounts. These kinds of breakdowns overshadowed the service and people start avoiding MobileMee.

Performance glitches:

The MobileMee service was not universally easy, seamless, and trouble-free. iDisk attribute of MobileMee was often criticized for its sluggish performance. Even, Mail and Contacts services seem to be difficult to use for some of its users.

Cost:

With iCloud, Apple has taken a lead step and offering this new service for free to all Apple users, while the older service MobileMe costs users $99 per year. For many potential subscribers, it was hard to justify paying $99, when they could manage with comparable services for free or less.

The MobileMee vied head-to-head with Google's cloud-based free of cost offerings, which used services like Gmail, Calendar, Picasa, DropBox and Google Docs.

The "name" failed to resonate

Initially Apple has commenced with name iTools, then at Macworld's New York Expo in July 2002, Apple rebranded the iTools service as Mac offering 100MB of server space with augmented technical support. Finally, Apple came up with the name MobileMe on June 9, 2008. For some users, the name seemed a little awkward. For some others, the name sounded unprofessional. Few users found the name MobileMee vaguely Windows-like (Windows Me, My Computer).

All these factors together work as a sturdy strength that take MobileMee to an unexpected end.

Summary of the article: the article summarizes why Apple dumped MobileMe for iCloud? The tech giant, Apple has always shed fascinating and lavishing products and services out of its umbrella. Recently, Apple just fueled up the tech terrain with its latest launch of new service iCloud. This new service is a replacement of Apple's MobileMe service.
