How to Grow Dill Plants
- 1). Sprinkle 5 tbsp. of 16-16-8 analysis fertilizer over 10 square feet of garden bed. Turn the fertilizer into the top 6 inches of soil.
- 2). Sow the seeds directly in the garden bed, planting the seeds 1/4 inch deep. Space seeds 4 to 6 inches apart in rows set 24 inches apart.
- 3). Mist the bed with water as needed to keep the top 4 to 6 inches moist. Seeds germinate within seven to 10 days.
- 4). Thin the dill plants once they are 2 inches tall and have at least two leaves on each seedling. Pull up the excess plants so the remaining dill is spaced approximately 12 inches apart in the row.
- 5). Cover the bed with a 2-inch layer of mulch once the plants are 6 inches tall. The mulch suppresses weeds and keeps moisture in the soil.
- 6). Water the dill plants once a week when there is no natural precipitation in the previous seven days. Dill tolerates dry soil and only requires watering when the top 2 inches of soil starts to dry out.
