    Identification

    • The Sienna maple is a cultivar of the Freeman maple. Scientifically referred to as Sienna Glen maple, Acer x freemanii "Sienna," it typically achieves a height of approximately 40 feet with a canopy spread of the same number. The tree is a hybrid, the offspring of a red maple and a silver maple.

    Growth

    • According to North Dakota State University, the Sienna maple possesses a uniform branching pattern that grows into a pyramidal form, with intense, green summer foliage that gives way to an orange or red color in the fall. The Sienna Glen maple grows well in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 6.

    Features

    • The Sienna maple adapts to a multitude of soil conditions, grows quickly and tolerates high wind with a minimum of breakage. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources indicates that the sienna maple combines the adaptability of silver maple with the ornamental features of red maple. The tree is not recommended for growing in spaces narrower than 8 feet.
